A Foolproof Guide To An Organized Road Trip

June 21st marks the first day of summer which means more time outdoors, more barbecues, and more road trips! With all the talk of intentions to spend this summer outside, traveling and adventuring, we decided to put together our guide to an organized road trip. Packing up the car can be a big undertaking, especially with kiddos involved. We wanted to create a foolproof plan to make your trip even more enjoyable and memorable.

Find our top tips for an organized road trip below…

1: Don't over pack. Pick a suitcase that will fit in the car easily and pack according to its size. Less is more when it comes to road trips. Pack lightly and only take the essentials. Keep smaller items that you may be reaching for more often, like chargers, toiletries, or first aid in smaller bags outside of suitcases.

2: Car maintenance. Before any long road trip, get your car in tip-top shape. Make sure to get an oil change, a car wash, fill up the gas, check tire pressure, and all the other good stuff to ensure that you will have a safe and enjoyable trip. Keep your car clean throughout the trip with mini trash cans and hooks to hold purses and other items.

3: Go grocery shopping. Make sure you have all the snacks and drinks to keep you and your family happy. This will help decrease the amount of stops you make, while also avoiding any hungry moodiness whether it’s kids, partners, or yourself. Packing a cooler filled with all of the essentials will keep things fresh and chilled.

4: Create organizers for the essentials. Having organizers helps not only maintain and contain items in one place, but it also makes them more accessible when you need them. Organizers allow for easy access while giving every item that you may need on your trip a home.

5: Create entertainment consoles behind the front seats for kiddos. Having games, snacks, and electronics on hand that kids can reach for will make your road trip experience more enjoyable for not only kids, but also yourself by taking a bit of the weight off of your shoulders. Kids will stay entertained longer, avoiding the quintessential “Are we there yet?” questions. PS - don’t miss this Instagram reel on packing up my back seat organizer!
