DIY Your Holiday Wreath in 8 Simple Steps

From doors to windows and everywhere in between during the holiday season, wreaths are the perfect festive addition to the home. If you’re feeling crafty, want to save, or need to pull something together last minute, DIY-ing your own wreath can add a personal touch to your decor. If you’ve never made one yourself, we’ve got you! This year, we created a wreath with a little lamb’s ear to give it a soft, cozy, and unique look. Here’s a step-by-step guide to creating the your own wreath, from what you need to getting it hung up!

SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED

CreatE THE Wreath

  1. Cut your lamb ear stems to about 6 inches long and carefully begin wrapping them around the metal wire frame. Fold the ends as closely as possible. Repeat until you have covered the frame completely.

  2. Cut your floral wire into short, 3 inch strips and wrap around stems, to ensure they stay put.

  3. Fluff out your leaves to ensure your wreath looks full and doesn’t have any sparse areas.

  4. Cut the stems off any remaining lamb’s ear completely and place the greenery in any blank spaces. Attach the floral wire before you attach it, place it in, and twist the wire into place. Feel free to attach other greenery such as eucalyptus or lavender for some variety.

  5. Optional: You can also thread a long strip of ribbon through the frame to cover any blank spots. In our case, we opted for a sheer gold ribbon!

CreatE THE Bow

6. Tie a bow the size you’d like out of your checkered ribbon. Cut the ends of the ribbon diagonally for a clean look.

7. Cut a strip of a ribbon about 6 inches long to hang up your wreath. Tie the strip together at the ends, creating a circle with the ribbon. Thread the ribbon through the wreath frame and the knot you tied will stop it from feeding through completely.

8. Attach your bow with floral wire and hang it up anywhere in your home!

Of course, there are many different types of wreaths you can create to complete your at-home winter wonderland. If you don’t use lamb’s ear, you can still use the framework of this DIY tutorial to curate your own wreath!
